Importing an ePub

For JormunTL 1.2.0

Turning .epub files into the chapters of a novel, with numbering, scheduling and lock rules applied as they are created.

Needs the JormunTL EPUB Importer plugin, installed from JormunTL ▸ Install Plugins.

It takes .epub files and creates a novel’s chapters from them in bulk, with numbering, scheduling and access rules applied as they go. It is the difference between an afternoon and a week on a novel of any length.

Where it is

On the novel’s own edit screen, as a box called Chapter Importer (EPUB). You are always importing into something, which is why it is not a menu of its own: open the novel the chapters belong to and it is there.

What it does

  • Splits the book into chapters and reads their titles.
  • Assigns chapter numbers in order.
  • Schedules the run instead of publishing everything at once.
  • Applies your access rule as it creates them, so an import does not accidentally publish four hundred paid chapters as free.

Before a large import

Import one book into a test novel first and look at what came out: the chapter titles, the numbering, and whether paragraphs came through as paragraphs. ePub is a loose format and books vary more than you would expect. Fixing a mapping once costs minutes; correcting four hundred published posts does not.

Delete the test novel afterwards.
